Argan oil is extracted from the nut of the argan tree. Sadly, due to deforestation, there is only one remaining area of natural argan forest in the world, which is in Morocco around the base of the Atlas Mountains.
In recent times the beneficial properties of argan oil have become more widely known and, because of this, the area has been designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve, to protect it.
Of course, the women of the Berber tribes of Sub-Saharan Africa have known for centuries about the oil’s beneficial properties and it has been used as a traditional beauty treatment for generations.
